Vi was born on Feb. 1st, 1931 in Fall City, Washington. to Helen (Hansen) Knudsen and Torvald Hansen. Torvald died when Vi was two years old and her mother then married Chris Knudsen several years later. The family spent time in California as well as western Washington. Viola was the oldest of four children. Vi is proceeded in death by her brother Don (Buddy) Knudsen and sister Helena Gohrick. She is survived by her brother Larry Knudsen of Shelton, Washington.
Vi went to Shelton High and graduated in 1948. She was hired at the Simpson Timber Co.'s Shelton office in 1948. There she met the love of her life, Paul Hanson. Paul and Vi were married on Sept. 23, 1949. Paul was an accountant with Simpson Timber Co. for forty years. They lived in McCleary, Washington for several years and had two sons, Gary and Dan. In 1955 they moved to Seattle and bought a house just north of Northgate Mall and had a son, Ron and a daughter, Paulette. Vi lived in the house for 60 years.
The family attended Maple Leaf Baptist church in Seattle from 1955 to 1967. They attended Elim Baptist church from 1967 to 1989. Vi was church secretary at Elim for many years. Paul and Vi then attended Edgewood Baptist from 1990 to the present.
After retiring from the church secretary job, Vi remained busy. Grandkids, good friends, family, and travel became a focus in the late 1980's after Paul also retired. Paul and Vi took the whole family to Hawaii. In 1988, Paul and Vi traveled to Europe to visit the "old country "and were able to connect with relatives there. Several cross-country road trips, and visits to their widespread family (Alaska to California), were common.
After 49 years of marriage Paul passed away in 1998. Viola had the support of her family and friends and continued to live an active life. She was always very involved with her church, with women's ministries, served on several boards and helped out as a phone volunteer with the Billy Graham ministries. She was active in her neighborhood and made a point of getting to know those living around her. She loved her family and her family loved her and will miss her greatly.
