Ginny was born to Erna and Alfred Hilker on April 30, 1927 in Bellerose, Long Island, New York. She was raised by her parents and lived near her extended family, who were all descendants of German immigrants. Ginny attended and graduated from Jamaica High School in January 1943, and soon after found a position with Banker's Trust in Manhattan. After some time, her interest in travel led to accepting a civilian job with the United States Air Force Europe in Germany, where she worked for 2 years. After returning from Germany, Ginny lived in California for a time before returning to New York, where she rejoined Banker's Trust.
Ginny met her husband Jon at a party in Manhattan in late 1960 and they married on December 15 1962. They had their son Brian in August of 1963 and soon after moved to Washington, D.C. where Jon had entered the Foreign Service with the U.S. Information Agency. Ginny and Jon began their 25-year adventure overseas first in Syria, next Egypt, and then in Lebanon where their son Colin was born in 1967. After that, the Foreign Service took them to Morocco, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, with one 4-year assignment in Washington DC. During those years Ginny found work at the U.S. Embassy or with private companies while also raising their two sons. In 1989 Ginny and her husband Jon moved to Seattle, Washington where they retired.
Ginny is remembered by her family and friends as being wise, with a witty sense of humor, and a great smile with beautiful green eyes reflecting her confidence and satisfaction with her place in the world. Ginny will be interred at the Evergreen-Washelli Columbarium in Seattle.
