

Walter B. Nicks, 92, passed away September 19, 2021 in Seattle, WA. He was born in Ephrata, WA on December 23, 1928. Walt grew up in Ephrata and graduated from Ephrata High School. While in high school Walt worked at his father’s gas station. One summer he also helped surveyors determine the location of where Grand Coulee Dam would be built on the Columbia River. Walt took a few college courses before joining the United States Air Force and after four years of service Walt returned home and moved to Western Washington. Walt worked for Boeing in the Department of Defense as an Electronic Engineer and retired after 35 years.
Walt, as an engineer, was always finding things to tinker with so enjoyed helping to fix things. He was always the “go to” person at Woodland Park Methodist Church when something needed to be done. Walt was an avid coin and stamp collector. He also enjoyed visiting his parents Apple Orchard near Quincy, WA picking fresh fruit off the trees, fishing and spending time at Blue Lake as well as traveling to different places including Hawaii and Europe. He then got involved with the Greenwood Senior Center where he was involved in many activities.
Walt was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Thelma Nicks, Richard Nicks (brother), Allen Nicks (brother), Debbie Nicks (daughter), and Martha Weiss (stepdaughter). Walt is survived by his wife Celia of 33 years, two daughters Kerrie (Norm) Gosslee, Diane (Brett Stensrude) Nicks, stepson Matt (Beverly) Weiss; grandchildren Jeffrey (Rachel) Gosslee, Charlotte Weiss, Auburn Weiss and Kenneth Russell.
Memorial services will be held at Evergreen/Washelli on Friday, October 15 at 1:30P at 11111 Aurora Ave N., Seattle WA.
