Wendy was born in Seattle, WA, the daughter of Dan and Leona Bartholomew Korpe. She graduated with honors from Franklin High School in 1955. She attended almost every 10-year high school reunion and several of her high school friends remained friends throughout her life.
In 1957 she married Davy Upchurch and they had five children together. The marriage ended in divorce. She raised her children as a single mother. Being a mother of five boisterous children, she worked hard to care for her family. She married Mac in 1971 and they remained married until his death in 1995.
Wendy worked tirelessly in the service industry, later becoming a successful small business owner of Chubb’s Pub in Snohomish, WA. Wendy was a long-time resident of the Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle and for a time also resided in Snohomish. After she retired she lived for a while in the Ballard and then in Queen Anne neighborhoods until her move to Foss.
Wendy had a passion for life. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved nothing more than having a good laugh with her friends and family. She was an avid reader and mover-goer, and enjoyed traveling. One of the highlights for her was traveling through Europe with her sisters Kissy, Judy, and Candy in 2001 and a second trip in 2006 with her daughter Heidi.
After her retirement, she became actively involved with Ballard Northwest Senior Center, serving in several leadership capacities including membership on the board and was instrumental in organizing the center’s bookstore, Nifty Thrifty Bookstore.
