Bill, as he was known by his friends and family, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2021 with his step-daughter by his side. This maverick of a man was born in Tonopah, Nevada on May 25, 1935. His life was not an easy one, losing his father at the age of 2 a casualty of the silver mines. When his widowed mother married Erwin F. Brandenburg a bond was formed between Erwin and Bill that would form the man we came to know. Following his step-father's footsteps Bill joined the US Navy in 1952 enlisting out of high school. He was proud to serve his company and was an Aviation Electronics technician with the VP-24 Batman Squadron. After his service ended in 1960 Bill joined Hughes Aircraft Company, eventually joining Honeywell in the Marine Systems Division. While living in Seattle, Bill found the love of his life, Darlene Cox. While they never married they shared a deep commitment and were partners for 53 years. Darlene passed away on September 12, 2020 leaving a void and longing that Bill could not find peace with.
He is fondly remembered for being a man that loved fishing, camping, good food and jazz. Although being a fiercely independent and private man, he found room in his heart to love and be loved by those he leaves behind. He will be remembered as, "Dad and Grandpa Bill." Our memories of "Oh, Fi!" will be just one memory that will live on in our lives.
Bill is survived by Darlene's 2 remaining children (Charles Cox Sr., and Kelly Cunningham), 5 grandchildren, (Amber Tomson, Charles Cox Jr., Michael Cunningham, Katie (Rae) Lyons , Daniel Rae and 5 great grandchildren, (Caleb Cunningham, Elliette Cunningham, Avery Rae, Rowyn Rae and Olivia Lyons).
All are welcome to sign the online guestbook below and add any messages or stories for the Brandenburg family.
