
Bill Pittman passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 with his wife and son at his side. He was born to Hearley and Grace Pittman on February 16, 1921 in Oronogo, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his son Robert (age 5) in 1958. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mable, children William, Linda and Dale, 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Bill grew up in Oronogo, Missouri and Hornick, Iowa, graduated from Hornick H.S. in 1939, and joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in March 1941. He was a pilot in WWII (Pacific Theater) and Korea. After WWII he was stationed at McChord Field. In 1947 he met and married the love of his life, Mable May Barclay of Seattle. He was her "knight in shining armor." Over the next 14 years they were stationed in Japan (2 years), England (4 years) and several stateside bases. Bill retired from the Air Force with the permanent rank of major in 1961. Following retirement from the Air Force, Bill and family settled in Lynnwood, Washington. Bill worked full time at Boeing and Seattle First National Bank while pursuing a B.A. degree of Business Administration at the University of Washington. After graduation he joined the IRS and worked as a revenue officer until his retirement from Civil Service. He then went back to school, received a B.S. degree in Accounting from Central Washington University and started his own business, Pittman Tax Service, which he operated until his retirement in 2014 at age 93. Bill had lifelong passions for learning and flying. He owned his own airplane and was an active pilot until age 67.
