
Went to greener pastures and better hunting grounds on April 7th, 2003 at 86. Born in Feilding, New Zealand on Sept. 8, 1916. Raised in rural NZ, Bill became proprietor of the Morere Hot Springs Hotel, previously run by parents Edwin & Olive along with 4 siblings. Bill enjoyed fishing and bird hunting as a young man, a passion he followed his entire life.
He graduated from Prep School in Wellington, enlisted in the NZ Mounted Coastal Cavalry and then joined the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Bill became a flight instructor for commonwealth pilots in Canada and then was stationed in England, flying fighter escorts during WWII receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross and Knighted the 10th Earl of Denbeigh, ROPB.
Bill married Mae Darlene Rovang a native of Bryant, South Dakota living in Seattle. He had an active insurance business for 30+ years in Seattle starting with Pioneer American Insurance Co. Bill donated his free time to youth swimming and avidly supported the Blue Ridge Swim Team program as a Blue Ridge resident for 40 years.
Survived by Mae Darlene Shortt, his loving wife of 58 years living in Edmonds, his sister Judy Coop of NZ, sons and daughters Marilyn Bailey, Gary Peggy, Brian Karen, Nancy, Patrick and grandkids Clint, Jennifer, Garson, Tyler, Kelsey, Caitlyn and great grandkids Gage and Holland "Kiaora" Bill.
