

Art peacefully passed away on October 28, 2013 with his loving wife nearby. He was born on January 26, 1922 in San Antonio to Roy W. Creager and Anna Gastring Creager. He graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1940 and attended San Antonio Junior College. He married Patsy Estes on January 4, 1943 at Riverside Baptist Church San Antonio. In 1947 they joined the St. Stephens Episcopal Church where he became active as vestryman, Sunday school teacher and chaired the building committee to establish a new church. The couple moved to McQueeney in 1970 and joined St. Andrews Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry, was Senior Warden, and was active on many committees there.
Art entered the insurance business in 1940 and this became a lifelong endeavor. He joined the Texas General Agency handling claims and was promoted to Assistant Secretary. Later, he joined Royal Insurance Company and retired from there in 1986. His service with Royal was in claims, managing the San Antonio office. From there he was appointed Territorial Claims Manager, supervising thirteen claims offices in eight states.
Always wanting to be productive, he became a self employed claims consultant for the next fifteen after retirement.
Art was active in the community serving in the capacity of Secretary of the San Antonio Agricultural Association. He was president of the McQueeney Lions Club and was active in the formation of the McQueeney Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Captain. He served as president of the San Antonio Claims Association and was president of the San Antonio Claims Managers Council. He was secretary of the McQueeney Municipal Utility District and was a member of the American Arbitration Association.
Art and Patsy loved to cruise and one of the highlights of their twelve cruises was one in which they took their three daughters (and one granddaughter) and their husbands on a cruise to the Bahamas.
Art loved collecting and restoring antique cars and was at one time a member of the Alamo Horseless Carriage Club and the Packard International Club. Always a water lover he was Commodore of the Alamo Boat Club. He spent many happy hours on Lake McQueeney boating, skiing, and just watching the river go by. He could never get enough of being outdoors and near the lake.
Art loved his family and his pets, especially his beloved Scotty dogs.
He is preceded in death by his granddaughter Sandy Gayle Bauer.
He is survived by his wife Patsy and their daughters and their husbands: Janet and Buddy Alcede of McQueeney, Nancy and Bob Mansfield of McQueeney, Susan and Fruit Balderas of Seguin; grandchildren Joel Boggess, Paul Williams, Courtney Alcede and great-grandchildren; Dylan, Duncan and Devyn Bauer and Austin, Paige and Neely Williams and Riley McConnell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Guadalupe County Humane Society and the American Cancer Society.
A Visitation will be at Goetz Funeral Home on Friday, November 1st from 5-9 with the family present 5-7. Funeral services will be held at noon, Saturday at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. Interment will follow at Mission Park Burial South.
