

Clarence Joseph Steinkamp was called home by our heavenly Father on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Kirkwood Manor in New Braunfels, Texas at the age of 83. He was born February 13, 1932 in Quincy, Illinois to Joseph and Laura (Jansen) Steinkamp. He was one of six children. Clarence moved his family to Seguin over 40 years ago following a transfer by Motorola. He retired from Motorola in 1996 as a Scheduling Manager. Clarence was a member of Saint James Catholic Church in Seguin and demonstrated the strength of his faith in everything he did.
Friends and family are invited to a time of visitation on Thursday, September 17, 2015 from 5 to 8 pm at Goetz Funeral Home 713 N. Austin St. Seguin. A rosary service will be held Friday, September 18, 2015 at 10:00 am at Saint James Catholic Church 510 Camp St. in Seguin followed by Clarence’s funeral Mass at 10:30. Interment will follow at Saint James Catholic Cemetery in Seguin.
Clarence married Dorothy Elizabeth Neil in St. Francis Catholic Church in Quincey, Illinois on July 3, 1954 and together raised eight children. He was a warm, easy going, intelligent and faithful father and husband, taking every opportunity to teach his children the difference between right and wrong. He was frugal, earning a nickname demonstrating his disapproval of spending money. Clarence loved to camp. He and Dorothy continued camping together until just a few years ago. He was a Boy Scout leader while raising his children and continued to camp with the scouts far after his children grew up and had families of their own. Clarence was a talented carpenter; using his skills to build his family home, additions on friends and families home, even building a home for Glenn Seiler. He also made wooden toy boxes and innovative benches which folded into a picnic table. Other passions included square dancing, Knights of Columbus, Sunday afternoon chili and homemade ice cream. Clarence was preceded in death by his son; Greg Steinkamp and his brothers Rodger, Herman, Eddie and his sister Leona.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Dorothy; his children Diana Klade (Michael), Georgia Volm (Brad), Denise Schubert (Jay), Brad Steinkamp, Vicky Snow, Gloria Steinkamp and Priscilla McBride (Jacob) as well as 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren as well as his sister Rosella Neisen.
