Doris Anita Dolle Engelke

Doris Anita Engelke, a great mom, grandma and friend but most of all a devoted wife of 65 years passed away on Monday, July 14, 2014 at her home in Seguin surrounded by her loving family. She was 86 years old.

Doris was born at home in Geronimo, Texas to Marvin and Elsie (Werner) Dolle. She was a graduate of Navarro High School when the school only went through tenth grade. She met the love of her life Preston Engelke and later married him at the Friedens United Church of Christ in Geronimo, Texas on September 25, 1948. During her working career she was a receptionist for numerous physicians in Seguin. She loved to travel, especially trips to Las Vegas, Kinder Alaska and Colorado. She was a great dancer and a member of the Friedens United Church of Christ. Doris found special joy in watching her four granddaughters at Ballgames, Cheerleading competitions and dance recitals. Doris lived a wonderful life and will be missed by all.

Doris leaves behind her cherished husband of 65 years Preston Engelke, her daughters Gail LaFerrara and her husband Steve of Seguin, Texas; Cindy Herzik and her husband David of Bay City, Texas; her grandchildren Kristina Even and her husband Derek, Stephanie Thomas and her husband Kerstan, Erica Herzik, Heather Herzik; her great-granddaughter Alyana Even, her sister Deanne Engelke and her husband Arlan as well as her sister-in-law Ruby Engelke. She will also be remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, loving family members and friends.

Friends are invited to call upon Doris’s family on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 5 to 8:00 PM at Goetz Funeral Home 713 N. Austin Street, Seguin, Texas, in the Goetz Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will follow on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Friedens United Church of Christ 2555 County Road 107 “Friedens Church Road”, Seguin, Texas, Phone:(830) 303-7729 with interment following at Lone Oak Cemetery in Seguin.
