Kirby was the first recipient of the Optimizer, an experimental implanted device to improve heart function. During an interview by the media, they questioned risk involved by participating in this research. Kirby replied, "I am ready to take the risks because I want to help others with this condition."
Kirby was generous with his time and talent. His family and friends benefited from his excellent cooking skill. "The Christmas Brisket" story will live long in family legend.
His acerbic wit could make you laugh until you cried or cry until you laughed. By the way the answer is 42.
Kirby's great love of music was second only to his family. He played tuba in high school and continued many years performing with the Entertainers at Wurstfest and other venues with his best friend, Dirk Rutter. Kirby also played guitar, banjo, and mandolin.
He was dearly loved by his siblings, Evylen Hastings, Karen Massey (Marvin), Gloria Roach (Kenneth), Patricia Hall (Leroy), Delvin Junker (Betty), and his nieces and nephews. His family is especially thankful for his loyal friends Dirk Rutter, Eric and Tammy Bellamy, Steve Schmoekel, Mary Kist and Dan Thull. We are greatful for the medical personnel who cared for him.
In honoring Kirby's request no formal services will be held.
