

Maxine Luedtke Sonntag was born on January 10, 1922, in Fort Worth, Texas to Karl and Emma Luedtke. She went to heaven on March 13, 2014, in Seguin, Texas at age 92. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fort Worth.
Maxine graduated from Riverside High School and Brantley Draughon Business College. She then supported World War II efforts as a secretary in Washington, D.C. from 1943 to 1944. She married Edwin H. Sonntag on May 12, 1946, and they were blessed with three children. As her children grew, Maxine served in the church’s Ladies Aid as they worked to purchase a pipe organ, taught Sunday School, and worked as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader. Her skills included piano, sewing (including wedding gowns for her daughters), cooking/baking, and needlework of all kinds. Her most fulfilling work, outside the home, was her 21 years at Texas Lutheran University where she earned the Distinguished Staff Award and ended her career in 1987 as secretary to the school’s president.
Maxine is predeceased by her husband Edwin, brothers George and Charles, son-in-law Bob White, and great grandson Luke Michael Sonntag. Her survivors are her children and their spouses: Fran Latour (Bruce), Jeannie White, and Ed Sonntag (Kathy); 9 grandchildren: Anne, Austin, Margaret, Kathy, Matt, Kristina, Michael, Danny, and Karl; and 16 great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 21, at Grace Lutheran Church in Seguin. Pallbearers are her five grandsons and her nephew Charles Luedtke. If desired, memorial gifts may be sent to Grace, Ed and Maxine Sonntag Scholarship Fund at TLU, and American Cancer Society.
