

William C. “Clifford” Phillips of Seguin passed away Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012 at the age of 94. Clifford was born in Guadalupe. Co. on Jan. 23, 1918 and lived here all of his life. He joined the Army and served in Australia during WWII. After leaving the military, Clifford worked in construction most of his life and eventually retired from The Koehler Company in Seguin.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Ida K. (Bierstedt) Phillips; his parents, Hardy Amos Phillips and Ida Darling Phillips; sisters, Lucille Reneau, Lola Elley, Beulah O’Toole Wallpole and Ruth Owens; brothers, James G. “Garland” Phillips, Thomas W. “Wilburn” Phillips, Hardy A. “Junior” Phillips, Jr. and Chester G. “Glenn” Phillips. He is survived by his sister Bernice with husband Edsel Bergfeld and brother-in-law Doug Wallpole. Although Uncle Clifford and Aunt Ida were not blessed with children of their own, there were more than 55 nieces and nephews plus their spouses who were all treated as their children.
The family wants to express their appreciation to Hacienda Oaks Nursing & Rehab Center for taking him in and providing care during his final days. Also, to Suzie and Joel Watts for driving Uncle Clifford to gatherings of family and friends when he could no longer drive and for their frequent visits with him at the nursing home.
A visitation will be held on Monday, Feb. 13, 2012 from 5-7 p.m. and will continue on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012 from 8 a.m to 2:30 p.m. at Goetz Funeral Home. The family will be present from 1 until service time at 2:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park with the American Legion presenting honors.
