April 30, 1925 – September 10, 2022
Alma was the youngest of four children born to Herbert W. and Alma Greve Foster in Cleveland, OH. She attended Hathaway Brown School and was a graduate of Ogontz College.
She married her college sweetheart, Scane and had two children, son Scott (deceased) and daughter Lynn Farrell (Michael) who live in Largo, FL.
Alma was a lifelong tennis player and with age became an avid Tennis Channel watcher. She continued to play doubles tennis until the age of 78. She had an immensely proud moment as Women’s Doubles Club Champion in her late 70's.
She volunteered for Cleveland Red Cross driving the bus along with other positions for over 20 plus years. Being the true animal lover that she was, the Red Cross bus depot was next door to the Cleveland Mounted Police department, so every week the horses would wait by the fence for their sugar cubes. Over the years she was also an active member of the Junior League of Cleveland working various fundraisers and was one of their regular models for their annual fashion shows. She also has a lovely voice and sang in the Glee Club and church choir.
She was a creative needle pointer with some of her pieces still being seen each Christmas in her grandchildren’s Christmas stockings. She was a terrific Grandmother and affectionately known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as Mormor. She was also a voracious reader devouring novels and Readers Digest condensed novels.
When she was lucky enough to meet and then marry her second love of her life, Ralph Niles Hillner, she was fortunate enough to gain three more daughters, Ardis (James) Horstman Prospect Heights, IL, Pamela Xiques (Robert) Santa Cruz, CA and Dale Tedesco, Groton, CT.
Business took them to Weston, CT where she was active in the Garden Club. She also loved her Theater Group which went into New York City to see many Broadway shows and Operas. She continued singing in the church choir and playing doubles tennis. They loved to travel. Besides traveling to see all the children in their various locations they would enjoy trying new destinations each year which found them in Sweden, Greece, China, England, and a few islands in the pacific. They retired to Skidaway Island GA where she lived for over 20 years before joining her daughter’s family in Largo.
Besides her four daughters and sons-in-law she is survived by grandchildren: Corey (Michael) Metz, Kristen (Chad) Horn, Steve (Jennifer) Egan, Ashley Bowler, Sean Bowler, Luke Horstman, John (Lucy) Horstman, Tyler Horstman, Erika (Greg) Stadter, Nic Tedesco, Kevin Tedesco, Matthew Tedesco, and great grandchildren: Jeremiah, Kyla, Milo, Hazel, Calvin, Donavin and McKenzie in addition to several nieces and nephews.
