Anyone who knew Randy, knew a very sweet, kind and emotional man. Randy was born in Danville, Virginia on May 20th, 1957 and he is the oldest son of Charles and Mildred Barbour. He is survived by his parents and two brothers, Kyle and Gary.
Randy’s love for life and love for people showed in his every move. He loved to travel, and he LOVED Johnny Cash. Randy had a very special family at PARC. Since July10, 1985 when Randy moved into Curry Villa at PARC he has called Curry Villa his home . During the past 35 years he has made an impact on so many people. Not only his housemates, but the staff who cared for him and made sure all his needs were met. Some thoughts and memories from friends, family and staff follow:
“Randy was an inspiration to all. He was a huge fan of Johnny Cash and every time Randy would perform he would light up the room with joy. Randy was a memorable part of the Ozona Roots Festival and the music program at PARC. His favorite song was Folsom Prison Blues that he performed for many years, inspiring us all to dance, sing and be a part of the fun every time.”
“I remember Randy as truly a larger than life character. When I first met Randy I was an 11-year old kid who had recently been transplanted in Florida from a little country town in Tennessee, and seeing Randy even way back then with his signature Stetson hat and giant belt buckle I felt like I’d bumped into one of the kindly old fellas I remember who’d sit around the RC Cola machine swapping tall-tales at the country store. I remember a guy who could tell you about his weekend and make you feel like you were not only there with him, but also like you might have just bought yourself a cow at the livestock auction! While Randy never seemed to meet a stranger, he couldn’t make a friend he showed the deepest love and compassion for the people who had touched his life. Just talking about fond memories of friends would bring that big deep chuckle and broad smile to his face just as quickly as the thought of a friend he missed would bring him to tears.
Both in laughter and in tears Randy showed us all love that really was larger than life.”
“To know Randy was to love Randy. He had a positive impact on everyone he encountered and instantly put a smile on your face when you were with him. Randy loved to socialize, tell stories, sing Johnny Cash and show off his dance moves in his cowboy boots while tipping his cowboy hat toward you. Randy loved wrestling and was so excited he got to meet Hulk Hogan in Orlando and loved staying up late on Monday nights to watch Monday Night RAW.
Randy enjoyed traveling with his friends at Curry and with his family and loved to share his adventures and stories when he returned from his trips. Randy was truly special and built beautiful lasting relationships with his friends and would often cry when he missed his family, friends and past staff members. Now it is time for us to miss our friend, Rest in sweet Peace Randy we love you and will truly miss you! “
“Randy loved his bible and having church service in his apartment on Sundays. He was a great help around the house and loved to assist with cooking and cleaning the kitchen. The one thing he absolutely loved doing was reenacting cowboy scenes riffle and all. His love for acting, singing and playing guitar and dancing was experienced by all who knew and loved him. Randy was always there to help out. It was not unusual for him to help his housemates load their walkers in the car. It was so much fun listening to him talk about drinking whiskey and laugh (as a joke), and sometimes he would pretend his water was whiskey during his time with staff.”
“He was such an incredible man. Heaven now has an angel.”
