On May 13th, 1974, a beautiful soul entered this world. Early that morning, Charline Elaine Morris was born to Ewen and Ena Morris in Bronx, New York at Jewish Memorial Hospital. Charline was the oldest of three children. She proved to be a caring and nurturing older sister to Ewen (Jr). and Patricia (Patty). She was strong willed, outgoing, and determined. Her life was a testimony of what it meant to be joyful always and to give thanks in all circumstances. She enjoyed life and made the best out of all situations. She loved to laugh and to have a good time. She was never grumpy and would light up any room with her great big smile. In fact, every time you saw her, she was smiling. She was known for that most infectious smile.
Charline attended Westchester Area SDA School, in her elementary years, where she proved herself to be a scholar and excelled academically. From there she went on to Middle/High School at North Eastern SDA academy in New York.
In 1990, Charline moved to Florida with her parents and two younger siblings. They migrated from New York to Florida because Ewen Sr. and Ena wanted to ensure that their children had endless opportunities and options for their lives. They decided that Seminole, Florida would be their new home. Charline enrolled in Seminole High School in her junior year and two years later in 1992, graduated with Honors from Seminole High.
The next step on her academic journey was at the University of South Florida. While at USF she earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology. But that certainly was not enough; she wasn’t done yet! She continued at USF and went on to earn her master’s degree in Special Education.
God chose Charline and He designed her heart for Special Needs Children. She was a Special Education Teacher for over 20 years. She began her career as a Special Education Educator at Gibsonton Elementary School. That was where she met her dear friend Nita Anderson. Her next assignment was at Forest Hills Elementary and there she met another dear friend, Jessica Regan. Her final place of service; where she was placed by God to bless the lives of children, was Riverhills Elementary.
On December 8, 2013, Charline became…Charline Elaine Lawes, when she married the love of her Life Hewitt Lawes (Huey). Together, they were chosen as vessels to bring two beautiful girls into this world.
On June 18, 2013, Iyanna Sarah Lawes (Yaya) was born. Yaya was born with an unknown neuromuscular disorder. Charline’s steps were ordered. God had been preparing her through her training, work, and her heart for special needs children to love and care for her very own child. The birth of Yaya and the four “long” months following, would be an ultimate test of Charline’s faith. Those first few months were touch and go and the prognosis did not look so good. She was by her daughter’s side both day and night as little Iyanna fought for her life. No matter what the Doctors said, Charline refused to give up. She knew that right along with her and Huey…God was also in that hospital room and that He was watching over their child (who was just as determined as her mommy). Charline knew she had to trust Him! Her faith was all she had, and this tough time, helped her to forge a closer bond with God. She knew she had to depend on Him to comfort her family and for Him to keep her daughter! After four Months…God and little Iyanna finally decided it was time to get out of that Hospital bed. Although, Yaya was finally able to go home, her journey had just begun. Charline would need to continue to depend on God as He guided her and helped her take care of Yaya in the day to day. She was the ultimate advocate for her little Iyanna. She fought tirelessly for her to receive the proper care and all else that she would need for her little girl to flourish.
On November 14, 2014, Hewitt and Charline bought another baby girl into the world. On that day, Isabella Shay Lawes (Izzy) was born. This little bundle of joy would complete their beautiful family. Although only six, she has already proven to be a kind and loving soul just like her mommy. She displays care and love for her older sister beyond understanding and has also proven to be Yaya’s fierce protector and advocate…just like her mommy!
Charline and Hewitt were now parents to two little angels…Two Best Friends!
Family was most important to her! She lived for her family. She enjoyed her life with her husband and her children. She was very close to her sister Patty as well! You didn’t see one without the other! She found joy in planning family gatherings and outings. Charline was the queen of throwing parties…birthday parties, baby showers, bridal showers…you name it!
Charline was extremely active in church. In New York, she was a young member of Bronx Temple SDA. It was there that she gave her life to Jesus when she was twelve years old. While at Bronx Temple she was in the Pathfinder Club and a member of the Adventist Youth Society. Upon moving to Florida, she immediately became an active member of All Nations SDA church, here she joined the Conqueror Pathfinder club and became an active member of AYS. She had no problem stepping in anywhere she was asked to help.
