Dorothy Urban Pittman

Dorothy Urban Pittman passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 29, 2016 in Pinellas Park, Florida. Born and raised in Atlanta Georgia, Dorothy was raised to love The Lord. While working at the War Department in Atlanta in the early years of World War II she met the love of her life, William Edward Pittman. Shortly thereafter, they were married on May 5, 1943. They had a blessed life together filled with love and three children whom they cherished.

After going back to school to obtain her nursing degree, Dorothy graduated from DeKalb College with honors in 1971. She utilized her degree in working as a Registered Nurse at the Veteran Affairs Hospitals in Atlanta, Georgia and Bay Pines, Florida. Dorothy retired from the VA at Bay Pines, but she later resumed her career as the Director of Nursing at Freedom Square.

Dorothy was a former member of Seminole Baptist Church; there she worshiped The Lord, and taught Sunday School until physical limitations prevented continued active membership. She loved the Bible, and was an avid reader of medical journals and had a keen interest in holistic medicine. She was also known for never missing The Lawrence Welk Show on Saturday nights.

Mrs. Dorothy Pittman is pre deceased by her loving husband of 69 years, William Edward Pittman Sr.; her parents, Harry W. Urban Sr. and Meynell Elizabeth Urban; brother, Harry W. Urban Jr. and sister, Elizabeth Urban Henley.

Dorothy leaves behind her children, William Edward Pittman Jr. (Marilyn), Pamela Pittman Fringer (Robert) and Richard Eugene Pittman Sr. Through her son Richard, Dorothy also leaves behind two grandchildren, Ricky and Andrea, as well as one great-grandchild; Damian.

The Pittman family will be hosting a visitation on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. until funeral services at 2:30 p.m. with J. Arnold Johnson officiating at Garden Sanctuary Funeral Home with the burial following the service at Garden Sanctuary Cemetery.
