Earl Upperman was born the son of Samuel and Mary in 1927 in Washington, D.C. where he grew up and attended Coolidge High School. Near the end of WWII, he joined the Marine Corps and was proud of his service for the remainder of his life. After initial training at Parris Island, South Carolina, he met and married his wife of 68 years, Mary Elaine Pitcher. Mary was also born and raised in Washington, D.C. in 1930, the daughter of Alice and Edwin Pitcher.
They resided in Washington D.C. until moving to Arlington Virginia where Earl worked for C & P Telephone Company of Virginia. In 1959, after the birth of their son Bob and daughter Linda, they moved to Annandale Virginia. Earl continued to work for the telephone company while Mary focused on raising their children before going back to work several years later.
Upon retirement, Earl and Mary moved to Five Towns in St. Petersburg, Florida where they enjoyed many new friendships and reconnecting with friends and coworkers from years past. Dick and Dottie Stickley became fixtures in their lives with many happy hours spent telling stories of their lives together, walks on the beach, and dinners out. Family and friends were always important to Earl and Mary - they particularly enjoyed trips to visit Bob in Daytona Beach, FL and Linda in Hawaii.
Earl was predeceased by Mary in 2015 and continued to live at St Mark Village until his passing in February this year. It was their wish that they be laid to rest together here at this peaceful Garden Sanctuary and near the beach they loved so much. They are and will be missed beyond measure.
