Janice “Crystal” Marie Finnis (Ruth), 73, of Seminole, Florida, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026. Born on December 18, 1952, in Joliet, Illinois, she was the beloved daughter of Marie Ficarella and Lawrence A. Ruth.
Crystal lived a life defined by compassion, service, and unwavering love for others. She earned her master’s degree in psychology from Illinois State University, a foundation that guided her remarkable career as a pet loss support grief counselor with Pinellas County Animal Foundation. For 40 years, Crystal dedicated herself to helping individuals and families navigate the deep pain of losing a beloved pet. Her empathy, kindness, and gentle guidance touched countless lives, offering comfort during some of life’s most difficult moments.
Her gift for healing extended far beyond her professional work. Crystal was known by all who loved her as a steady and caring presence—a listening ear, a source of wise advice, a shoulder to cry on, and a joyful companion in happier times. She was, at her core, both a giver and a healer.
A devout Catholic, Crystal’s faith was central to her life. She cherished time with her family and friends and held a special, lifelong love for animals. Her warmth, generosity, and quiet strength created a lasting legacy that will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Crystal was preceded in death by her mother, Marie Ficarella, her father Lawrence A. Ruth, and her husband, Kenn Finnis. She is survived by her daughter, Amanda Finnis; her stepson, Michael Finnis; her brother, Kevin Ruth and his wife Cathy; her brother, Ronald Ruth and his wife Lesa; her best friend, Janice Cangelosi, who has been a tremendous blessing to Crystal and her entire family; and many nieces and nephews who will remember her with deep affection.
Funeral services will be held on April 15, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. A graveside service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Garden Sanctuary Cemetery.
Crystal is, and will always be, deeply loved and profoundly missed by many.
