Only by God’s grace do we have the opportunity to fall into His arms for peace and rest. God opened His arms for Joan Marie Wechter, 71, on January 4th, 2025. She was born on June 21st, 1953 in Sandusky, Ohio. Joan was the daughter of Joanne Lusher and William (Bill) Wechter, and one of eight children.
Joan moved to Florida with her family when she was 13. She excelled in ballet and had hopes and dreams of one day dancing in NYC. Although this dream did not come to pass here on earth, it is said by those who knew her, that she would be beautifully dancing across heavenly floors. Sadly, Joan was diagnosed with a lifelong debilitating mental illness that was to dictate future outcomes of her life.
She graduated from Largo High School and continued on with altruistic efforts for several years to follow. Without a doubt, Joan was known for her empathy and acceptance of all people.
Joan was loved by all who met her.
Joan is survived by her mother, Joanne; her sisters, Julie, Janet (and husband Robbie); and brothers, John and Mark (and wife Olga). Her brother-in-law, Frank; five nieces and nephews and their children.
She joins her beloved father Bill; brothers, James and Jeff; her sister Jean and nephew, Mark Jr. in eternal peace.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to Florida Ballet (https://floridaballet.org/individual-giving) or NAMI (www.NAMI.org), a mental health organization.
