
Terry, Martha L. (Gierke), of Largo, Florida, died on Monday, March 5, 2012. Martha resided at the Sweetwater of Largo assisted living facility. She was pre-deceased by her husbands, Charles E. Gierke and J. Paul Terry, her son Lance Gierke and siblings, Edward and Nora Gardner. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, David and (Carolyn) Gierke of Lancaster, New York and a grandchild, Robert L. Gierke of Pittsburgh, Pa.
Martha, born on February 26, 1918, served as Worthy High Matron of the Augustus H. Crown chapter of the Eastern Star #619, North Tonawanda, New York, in 1960; she also served as Worthy High Priestess of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Messiah Shrine #18, Niagara Falls, New York, in 1967. After moving to Florida in 1971, she worked for more than a decade as an executive secretary for the Raymond James Company.
Martha and Paul were active in the First Christian Church of Largo, as well as the Pioneer’s Group, made-up of retired Bell Telephone Company employees. Over a period of fourteen-years, Martha and Paul traveled over 200,000-miles across the continental United States in their motor home – visiting every state in the union.
Visitation held at Garden Sanctuary Funeral Home, 7950 131st St. Seminole, FL 33776 Thursday, Mar. 15, 2012 from noon until service time at 1:00 p.m. Entombment will follow at Garden Sanctuary Cemetery.
