

Dr. Paul W. Martin Jr., D.D.S. August 13, 1934 - August 20, 2023 from Hudson, Ohio Retired Fire Chief, Paul Martin answered the final call on August 20, 2023. Paul was born in East Cleveland, son of the late Ethel (Geren) Martin and Paul William Martin Senior and big brother of the late Grace Martin Palsha. He was the husband and best friend of the late Susan Nosker Martin.
Paul graduated from Shaw High School in East Cleveland, Ohio in 1952, and The College of Wooster in 1956. He was on the tennis and the swim teams at Shaw and Wooster and wrote a sports column for the school paper at Wooster. He received a D.D.S. from case Western Reserve in 1960.
He had a very successful 40- year dental practice in Hudson, Ohio, and became a Fellow and Life Member in the Academy of General Dentistry. He was in the United States Navy Dental Corps rising to the rank of Captain and served as the Reserve Commanding Officer for the Navy Dental Reserve Company 4-6 in Cleveland, Ohio.
He is a past president of the Hudson Rotary and a member of Bellaire Michigan Masonic Lodge #398. Although he enjoyed his career as a dentist, his heart was in the fire service. As a young boy, he spent many hours at a fire station near his home on Cleveland's east side, and it was a favorite stopping place for him when he was delivering the Cleveland News. He joined the Hudson Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter in 1962 and worked his way through the ranks, eventually becoming the Chief of the Hudson Fire Department.
He received an associate degree in Fire Science and a master's degree in urban administration from the University of Akron and taught classes in fire safety at the University of Akron. He served as President and Chairman of the Board of the Ohio Fire Chiefs' Association. In 2000 he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award for contributions to State of Ohio Citizens and Ohio's Fire Service and was inducted into the State of Ohio Fire Hall of Fame by Ohio Governor Bob Taft.
At Paul's request, services will not be held. His ashes will be placed in the columbarium with those of his late wife Susan at Calvary Episcopal Church in Indian Rocks Beach, Florida.
