

88, of Largo, formerly of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away Nov. 7, 2012.
He was born in Mingo Junction, OH, the son of Daniel and Carrie "Bell" Murphy.
He served in the 4th Marine Division in WWII and survived Roi Namur, Saipan, Tinian, Iwo Jima. He moved from Steubenville, OH to Florida in 1947 where he met his future wife Dolores King. Gene worked as a general contractor and developer in Pinellas County. He loved having a good time with family and friends and traveled extensively. He was a member of Oakhurst United Methodist Church, a life member of V.F.W., D.A.V. and American Legion. He was a former member of Seminole Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow, and volunteered at Bay Pines VA, Pinellas County Extension and Meals on Wheels.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Dolores; daughters, Linda (Denny) Tyler, Terry (Al) Sychowski, and Shirley (Tom) Maguire.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Sat., Nov. 17th at Oakhurst United Methodist Church in Seminole, Florida. Burial with Military Honors will be held at 9:15 am Monday at Bay Pines National Cemetery.
