Ann White Knowles was ushered by angels into her eternal home on March 25, 2024, surrounded by her children. She was born in Brunswick County, North Carolina on August 7, 1937, to Lawrence Vernon Stanley and Erma Edwards Stanley.
Ann was a graduate of Shallotte High School, class of 1955. She earned undergraduate degrees from Flora MacDonald College and Mars Hill College. She then pursued higher education by attending Samford University and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary eventually earning her Master of Arts in Education from East Carolina University. A lifelong student, she took courses towards her Doctorate into her seventies. She was passionate about education and believed one should never stop learning. Her storied career in teaching spanned 30 plus years and included Elementary Education, Adult Education, and English as a Second Language (ESL). She was a retiree of the North Carolina Public School System.
She had a heart for literacy and missions. She enjoyed speaking at writers’ conferences, missions conferences, and churches. She was involved with home missions, as well as foreign missions. Her faith had feet and she was diligent to live out The Great Commission.
Ann was a writer and editor who wanted her words to make a difference in people's lives. She was published locally, nationally, and internationally. She contributed many articles to Mission Mosaic magazine, published two books, and wrote biblical radio dramas for Christ to the World Ministries that were broadcast in over 50 countries.
Attending church was paramount to Ann. She spent her life modeling the importance of church to her children and grandchildren. It was her heart’s desire to see each of them active in church and her prayer was they make Jesus Lord of their life. She served alongside her late husband at Emmaus Baptist Church and Love Memorial Baptist Church. Most recently, she was an active member of Bolivia Baptist Church until her death.
Next to her salvation, the thing Ann loved most was her family. Nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with them. She often referred to them as “Ann and Clan”. While we miss her greatly, we rejoice that she is in her heavenly home and we will see her again.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband and father of her children, Rev. John William White, her brother Danny Edward Stanley, as well as, her second husband, Abner Stanley Knowles. Left to cherish her memory are her children Bill White (Glenda), Andria Stewart (Wayne), Stan White, and Meredith McKeithan (Dwain); her grandchildren Bub White (Katie), Morgan Byrd (Ethan), Amber Rich, Stephen Rich (Rae), Emily Stewart (Brook), Chandler Stewart, John-Eric White (Samantha), Luke McKeithan (Meghan), and Mason McKeithan (Chely); and her great-grandchildren Ava Rich, Brooks and Emmi Rose White, Levi and Eli Byrd, Judson and Eden White, and many family and friends.
