Better known by his friends and family as Larry, he was a dedicated professional and a true lover of life.
Larry was born in Southport, NC, and raised in the community adjacent to Holden Beach where his father was a respected merchant. An award winning graduate of the Corcoran School of Art + Design (now a part of George Washington University) in Washington, DC., Larry went on to make an indelible impact in the world of banking and auditing, beyond his involvement in the art world. During his varied career, Larry worked at the Corcoran Gallery of Art (now a part of the National Gallery of Art), the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, and the Minnesota Museum of Art in St. Paul. Larry also traveled to Quebec, Nova Scotia and Ontario in Canada, as well as Bordeaux, Barcelona, and San Sebastián in Europe. He was a multitalented renaissance individual who left a legacy of creativity, adventure, and kindness.
Larry was the beloved husband of Elisabeth Williams-Caison, with whom he shared a deep and enduring love for more than 50 years. Together, they raised a family in Silver Spring, MD, that brought him great pride. He was the proud father of Jamie Williams-Caison and Bret Williams, and father-in-law to Malcolm Williams. Larry was “GranDude” to Ari, Zora, and Kai Williams, his cherished granddaughters, who brought him immense joy and laughter.
Outside of his professional life, Larry was a passionate sailor, an accomplished painter, and an enthusiastic novice fly fisher. A consummate rock star, jazz man, bluegrass artist, or any combination of the three, he could often be found strumming a favorite guitar, banjo or mandolin, playing his favorite tunes with friends and family. Some of his most enthusiastic fans were often the 7 plus adoring Sheltie dogs and their cat siblings.
Larry was known for his sharp mind, generous spirit, and sense of humor, always ready to lend a hand or share a laugh. He touched the lives of many, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to PBS, a cause Larry held close to his heart as it is a major promoter of the arts and humanities in America.
A memorial service to celebrate Larry’s life will be held at the Holden Beach Pavilion at 110 Rothschild St on Tuesday, March 18 from 12:00-3:00 pm.
