Mr. John Henry Ward

Mr. Ward was born in Columbus County on December 22, 1937 and was the son of the late Moses and Janie Susan Hewett Ward. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Isaac Ward and Cedric “JC” Ward and a sister, Annie Frances Leonard. He has been a faithful member of Shell Point Baptist Church since 1974 where he served in many capacities which included serving as a Deacon for over 30 years, a member of the choir, building and grounds and the cemetery committee. He was a river pilot for the dredge boat for many years and also farmed but what he loved most of all was the time he worked as a commercial fisherman.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Doris “Pearl” Ward of the home; a son, Johnny Ward of Shallotte; three daughters, Cynthia “Cindy” Hilz of Ocean Isle, Debbie Bowers of Shallotte and Shane Marshburn of Shallotte; grandchildren, Joshua Coffman, Hannah Hilz, Jonathan Ward, Jennifer Hendricksen, Wendy Stocks, Erica Flynn , Jessica Pearl Wynne, Chasity Lewis and Sierra Ward; great grandchildren, Lilly Pearl and Gracie Coffman, Christian Earl Ward, Kurt and Destiny Hendricksen, Olivia and Abigail Stocks, Evie and Ellie Ward and Maverick James Wynne.

Funeral services will be held Sunday August 3, 2025 at Shell Point Baptist Church at four o’clock in the afternoon with Reverend Greg Barefoot and Reverend Tommy Inman officiating. Burial will follow in the Shell Point Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Coffman, Jonathan Ward, Timothy Hewett, Mark Long, Caleb Long and Kevin Eubanks.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from six o’clock until eight o’clock at Shell Point Baptist Church and other times at the home.
