Julianne Berenyi, 60, of Shallotte, NC, passed away on December 28, 2024. Born on February 19, 1964, in New Brunswick, NJ, she was the cherished daughter of Frank Berenyi, of Shallotte, and the late Lois Bullock Berenyi.
Julianne was a remarkable woman whose life was as vibrant and adventurous as her spirit. She was a skilled horse wrangler, a passionate outdoorswoman, and a world traveler who embraced life with an open heart and a curious mind. Her wit, intelligence, and humor made her the kind of person everyone wanted to be around. She had a gift for making people laugh and feel deeply valued, creating lifelong friendships wherever she went. Julianne’s love and care extended to all creatures, making her a true animal whisperer, but she is most known for her love of horses. She had an unbreakable bond with her horse Chance, who remains in good hands in Montana.
Julianne’s impact on the lives of those around her was profound. Her thoughtfulness, beauty, and outgoing nature made her a beacon of light and positivity. She was a devoted and loving mother to her children, Jordan Wood, Tanner Wood, and Annaliese Kehoe, with whom she shared an unbreakable bond. From her, they gained a priceless appreciation of the natural beauty that is found close to home and tremendous admiration for the diversity of culture abroad. As her only daughter, Annaliese cherished their countless conversations that could stretch for hours, filled with laughter, wisdom, and love. She treasures the adventures they shared, which shaped her into an independent, open-hearted, and ever-curious person. These traits that Julianne embodied effortlessly. Her oldest, Jordan, reflects on how she taught her children, family, and friends to put their whole heart into what they do and work as hard as they love. Her second-born son, Tanner, reminisces about the many adventures traveling abroad and traversing the Mountain West. He holds close to the lessons she taught him: to embrace, learn, and laugh with life's negative moments; reminding him to accept the bad with the good. Additionally, she embodied the sentiment that if you wander the woods long enough, you're bound to find happiness.
Julianne was not only a mother and friend but also a force of nature who inspired everyone she met. She had an innate ability to connect with people, making them feel seen, heard, and loved. Her adventurous spirit led her to explore the world, and her stories of these journeys were as captivating as the woman herself. Those who knew her best often said they wanted to remain in her orbit, drawn by her magnetic personality and genuine kindness.
In addition to her father and children, Julianne is survived by her brother, Scott Berenyi, and her nephews, Brandon Berenyi and Calvin Berenyi. Her family and friends will forever treasure the memories of her laughter, her love for the outdoors, and her ability to transform spaces into warm, inviting sanctuaries with items she collected from her world travels, which was a testament to her creativity and eye for beauty.
Julianne’s final wish was for her children to honor her life in a way that reflected her adventurous and free spirit. She did not want a formal service; instead, she asked that her ashes be spread in places that held special meaning to her and her family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to one of the following charities; the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary, Wild Horse Refuge, or the Foundation of the Horse reflecting her love for horses and the natural world. If you wish to send a personal message to Julianne’s family or share your fondest memories of Julianne, please refer to her Facebook page as it will serve as her memorial space.
Julianne’s legacy of love, laughter, and adventure will live on in the hearts of all fortunate enough to know her.
