

Mrs. Coleman was born in Robeson County on October 2, 1942, daughter of the late Keenan and Luola Brown Meares. She earned her Bachelor of Science and Master’s degrees at East Carolina University. Mrs. Coleman was a retired teacher. Her first year of teaching was in Tabor City and the remainder of her career was in Brunswick County until her retirement. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church where she served as a choir member for many years and served as a Sunday School teacher as well as several committees. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Stephen Craig Coleman, stepfather Elmer Hendrix, brother, Mitch Meares, and sister Linda Meares Walsh.
Survivors include her husband Robert Milton Coleman of the home; niece, Paige Walsh of Alexandria, Virginia; and numerous cousins.
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 7, 2025, at one o’clock in the afternoon at Calvary Baptist Church with Senior Pastor Joseph Needham and Associate Pastor and Choir Director Rick Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Brunswick Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Scott, Nick Ward, Jim Herrin, Jay Craig, Bucky Wagoner and Ben Long .
The family will receive friends prior to the service, from eleven o’clock until twelve forty-five at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that memorials be directed to the N.C. 4H endowment fund of the Matthew 25 Center, P.O. 313 Tabor City, N.C.
