Alex was born in Brunswick County on June 18, 1997 and was the son of Kevin and Regina Lafontaine Hughes. He was a very talented fisherman since childhood and will always be remembered for fishing offshore with his jon boat and being very successful at it. He was a first mate for many years with various charter boats in the area. He was preceded in death by his mother Regina Hughes.
He is survived by his father Kevin Hughes of Shallotte; a brother, Ethan Hughes of Shallotte; two sisters, Kristen Hughes of Irmo, S.C. and Heather Lafontaine of Shallotte; grandparents, Don Hughes and wife Pat of Oak Island and Mona Lafontaine of Shallotte; a nephew, Izik Lafontaine of Shallotte.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday July 23, 2025 at three o'clock in the afternoon at Mintz Cemetery with Reverend Tim Carter officiating.
