Lena Mae Gurganus

Ms. Gurganus was born in Ash, North Carolina on March 4,1930 and was the daughter of the late Lester and Letha Carlisle Gore. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Billy Gurganus, a daughter, Susan Gurganus, son in-law, Reggie Abbott, sister Sylvia Pocino and brother, London Gore. Lena Mae worked for many years at Highlanders Textile of Shallotte. She was an avid gardener where she loved growing beautiful flowers and vegetables. She was a member of Jennies Branch Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Ann Abbott of Shallotte and Robin Farmer and husband Tracy of Shallotte; a brother, Louis Gore of Guthrie, Kentucky. She was the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday March 3, 2026 at eleven o’clock in the morning at Jennies Branch Baptist Church with Reverend Mark Smith and Reverend Jason Benton officiating. Burial will follow in the Gurganus Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Derrick Smith, Jonathan Curtiss, Gabriel Abbott, Garrison Abbott, Grayson Smith, Bryson Curtiss and Nolan Abbott.

Honorary pallbearers will be Aidan McGuire and Finley Smith.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and other times at the home of Ann Abbott, 4094 Arabian Way, Shallotte.
