Mac was born May 1, 1939 in Amite County, Mississippi. After his childhood in Mississippi, he enlisted in the Army in his early twenties, and ultimately concluded his military service eight years later in the Army National Guard of Virginia. Mac worked at the FBI for a brief time before beginning what would become a career in banking spanning more than thirty years in Washington, D. C.
In 1977 he married his wife Gretchen, and two years later they welcomed their daughter, Megan. Mac and Gretchen resided in Fairfax, Virginia until his retirement in 2004 when they moved to Sunset Beach, North Carolina.
There are a few things that were a constant for Mac – his unending love for his family and friends, his passion for boating, fishing, and the waters of the Chesapeake Bay, and after retirement, a renewed love/hate relationship with the golf ball, in many parts thanks to his employment at Sandpiper Golf Club.
In Mac’s retirement, he was fortunate enough to forge many friendships both in his neighborhood of Sea Trail and on the links at Sandpiper. But, his greatest joy was welcoming his son-in-law, Chris, and his sweet Peeps, Emme and James, into his life.
Along with Mac’s family, he will be lovingly remembered by his brothers Charles and Jim of Texas, and sister Sarah of Mississippi, as well as a large, extended family.
Mac, a kind and thoughtful man, was the Best of the Best in every sense of the word, and will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to know him.
A celebration of Mac’s life will be planned for a future date when it is once again safe for friends and loved ones to gather.
