

Mel was born January 1, 1937 in Sheboygan to Elmer and Elsie (Richter) Holtz.
Following graduation from Sheboygan Central High School, Class of 1956, Mel enlisted and served his country in the U.S. Naval Reserve.
On October 29, 1983 Mel married Pauline Lorenz of Sheboygan.
Mel was employed at the Kohler Co. in the Pottery Division until his retirement, where he was a member of the Kohler Quarter Century Club.
Mel enjoyed camping, golfing, deer hunting, his many dachshunds over the years, and the many special times spent at the family property near Crivitz.
In addition to his wife, Pauline, Mel is survived by four children, Cheri Scholten, Laura Hutchison, Kelly Siegel and David (Janet) Holtz all of Sheboygan; a step-daughter, Shari (Tony) Nelson of Sheboygan; 10 grandchildren, Chad Ploetz, Wade Scholten, Stacy Scholten, Tristin Hutchison, Amanda Siegel, Lizzy Siegel, Alyssa Holtz, Austin Nawrocki, Brittany Nawrocki, and Caitlyn Hatleli; a great-granddaughter, Ariel Ploetz; and other family members.
In addition to his parents, Mel was preceded in death by two brothers, Delbert and Ronnie; and a sister, Marion Oehldrich.
A memorial service will be held Monday, 2:00 P.M. at Ballhorn Funeral Chapels. Major Allen Hellstrom of the Sheboygan Salvation Army, will officiate. Entombment will take place in the Gardens of Peace Mausoleum. A time of visitation and support will be held at Ballhorn chapels on Monday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service.
A memorial fund has been established in his name for the Sheboygan Salvation Army.
Mel will always be remembered for his happy nature and his dry sense of humor.
