

Vernon was born October 7, 1931 in Sheboygan to Fred and Leona (Gosse) Schauer.
He attended Sheboygan grade schools and was a graduate of Sheboygan Central High School.
Vernon served his country in the U.S. Merchant Marines.
On November 13, 1954 Vernon and Claryce Draeger were united in marriage at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Sheboygan. She preceded him in death on September 15, 1988.
He was employed for 27 years at Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department as a detective sergeant until his retirement in 1983. Following retirement at the Sheriff’s Department he opened Schauer’s Photography, Floral , and Gifts in Howards Grove and was also instrumental in starting his daughter’s business, Legacy Studios.
Vernon served on the Sheboygan Common Council and also as Sheboygan County Supervisor.
He was a master gardener and enjoyed golfing, fishing, photography, and spending time with his family.
Vernon is survived by four daughters, Diana (Frank) Rabideaux, Susan Ross, Cynthia (Robert) Schauer, and Patricia (Clay) Schauer-Brunner; 21 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Elaine and Beverly Schauer; and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, Claryce, Vernon was preceded in death by his son, Daniel P. Schauer and two brothers, Willard and Glenn Schauer.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 9th, 2014 at Chapel of Eternal Light in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Kohler. Rev. James L. Hartman, Pastor of Bethlehem Lutheran Church will officiate. A time of visitation and support will be held on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at Chapel of Eternal Light. For those unable to attend, an additional visitation will be held on Thursday, January 9th, 2014 at 1402 S. 12th Street, Sheboygan, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
