

John was a Catholic by faith. He could find joy in everything and was a kind, loving man that people will never forget. He cherished his family and was lovingly named “John Grandpa” by his grandchildren. He enjoyed music and art. John had a laugh that could fill a room. He loved his woods and the hill.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his daughter, Heather VanMeter, a sister Cindy Lewis, and a brother Joe VanMeter.
He leaves behind his daughter, Hope VanMeter (Rob Baker); grandchildren, Johnathon, Adrian, Hayden, Julia, Desiree, Jayden, Meela, and Avery; his siblings, James T VanMeter II(Teresa), Rebecca Heckman (Donnie), Gwen VanMeter, Mark VanMeter, Barbie Johnson (Jason); his best friend and soulmate, Luna along with a host of family and friends.
The family of Mr. VanMeter has chosen cremation to honor his wishes, and has entrusted Hardy-Close Funeral Home, 285 S. Buckman Street in Shepherdsville, with direct cremation.
