

Barbara Elliott, age 75, of Shepherdsville died on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Audubon Hospital in Louisville. She was preceded in death by her parents Elbert Elliott and her mother Dorothy “Mann” Elliott. Her “fur babies” Murphy, Maggie, and Buster. She leaves to cherish memories, her brother David Elliott (Carol) from Bonham, Texas as well as several nieces and nephews and many life-long friends and colleagues and two very special friends Pat and David Wells.
Barbara began her teaching career at Shepherdsville High School in January 1968 where she taught for two and a half years. She transferred to the new Bullitt Central High School where she taught English, Drama, Speech, and was a Debate Coach. Her debate teams traveled frequently reaching national finals on many occasions. Also, Barbara was instrumental in securing funding for the Bullitt Central Auditorium where the Drama Team performed numerous plays and musicals under her direction.
“Ms "E”, as she was lovingly called by her students, served not only as a teacher, but as Assistant Principal and Principal of Bullitt Central High School until she retired in 1997.
Barbara was an active member of First Baptist Church of Shepherdsville where she served as Deacon, Adult Bible Study teacher, and as a member of the Missions Committee. Also, she served for several years as Drama Coordinator for the church and as a member of the Sanctuary Choir as well as a member and chairperson of the Personnel Committee. She was instrumental in working with Kentucky Refugee Ministries in sponsoring a Karen family from Myanmar eventually assisting them in a purchase of a home in Louisville.
Ms. Elliott was one of the three original people involved with a ministry at the Bullitt County Detention Center working with Adult Education as a GED instructor. Barbara served as a volunteer for 11 years in that role before she retired.
A memorial service will be held at (Schoppenhorst Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home) 4895 N. Preston Hwy. at John Harper Highway, on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at 10:00 A.M., Family and Friends may pay their respects on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, from 4 P.M. until 8 P.M.
