

John Doran Ray Sr. left this world peacefully to be with Christ Jesus and his Heavenly Father September 9, 2015. He was born May 24, 1926 to Leonard Ervin Ray Sr. and Ida Smithson Ray. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Leonard Ervin Ray "Babe" Jr. and his first grandson, Sgt. Adam James Ray, killed in Afghanistan. Survivors cherishing his memory are his wife of 64 years, Doris Mueller Ray; sister, Lois Jane Hummel (John); sister-in-law, Ann Ray; children, John Doran Ray Jr. M.D. (Meg), James Edward Ray (Donna), Thomas Allyn Ray and twins, Carol Ray Hutchison (Matt) and Brenda Jo Ray; grandchildren, Elizabeth Grace "Betsy", Amanda Nicole, Zachary Caleb (Lauren), Seth Micah, Junia Leigh and John Doran Ray III; Stephen Ray, Daniel Taylor and Victoria Mueller Hutchison; great grandchildren, Christopher Mitchem and Charlotte Ray; many nieces and nephews as well as special friends, Crawford Hill and Son Ly.
John, a World War II veteran served in the Army Air Corps. He retired from CST Company in 1991. As a member of Okolona Christian Church, he had been an Elder and active in the men's fishing trips.
His passion for baseball was expressed playing first base for his Alma Mater, University of Louisville. In his 70's he returned to play on the Louisville Senior Softball Association team and was an important factor in the victorious national championship game of 2001.
Funeral service will be held 12 P.M. Friday in the chapel of Schoppenhorst Underwood and Brooks (Preston Highway at Brooks Road and use John Harper entrance) with interment in Resthaven Memorial Park. Friends may pay their respects from 4 P.M. until 8 P.M. Thursday and after 9 A.M. Friday at Schoppenhorst.
