Mrs. Katherine Susan Fowler passed away on April 19, 2022. She was 73 years old. Kathy was born in Louisville on March 13, 1949 to Garland Bird and Virginia Higginbotham. She graduated from Southern High School in 1967. She was blessed with a daughter two years later. More blessings came in the ‘90’s when her grandchildren were born.
Kathy worked at GE for several years before a long career at the Courier Journal. Starting as a receptionist, she rose to become an editor in the editorial department and the newsroom. For nearly 30 years she was responsible for the Letters to the Editor section of the paper. It is there she met her husband and companion of 37 years, Michael. She retired in 2010.
After retirement is when the great-grandchildren came into her life. Always one to stay busy, she joined an arts and craft club both for the creativity and to make new friends. She also did volunteer work for several groups.
Kathy loved to travel visiting England, Ireland, France and Italy among others several times. She also enjoyed going to Canada and has been to over 30 states. Not a year went by that she didn’t visit somewhere. Her go-to spot for relaxation was Destin, Florida.
Kathy was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Hope I didn’t leave anyone out.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Nancy Monroe. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Michael; daughter, Stephanie Dickey (Jeff); sisters, Bonnie Harris (Billy) and Anita Fisher; brothers, Garland Bird Jr (Tracy) and Joe Dawes; grandchildren, Brad Robinson (Caitlin) and Tori Slavik (Bryce); and great-grandchildren Clark, Nolan and Annabel Robinson and Illeon and Caspian Slavik; and a host of several nieces, nephews and close friends.
Goodbye Love. Goodbye Mom. Goodbye Memaw. Goodbye Kathy. We all love you. It’s just goodbye for now. We’ll see you again.
Memorial service will be held at 4:00pm on Saturday, April 30, 2022 in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy at Brooks Rd). Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday, April 30, 2022 from 1:00pm until the time of service at 4:00pm. Expressions of sympathy can be made to Hosparus Health or the American Cancer Society.
