

Richard Ernest Dunn, 80, of Louisville died peacefully surrounded by family on January 1, 2019, joining his most beloved Carol in everlasting peace. Mr. Dunn, known as “Poppy” by his family, was the father of seven, Richard “Rick”, Joseph “Joe”, Steven (Kathy), Kenneth, John (Jeannie), Shannon “Shane” (John) and Kimberly (Albert), grandfather of 10 and great-grand-father to six.
A lifelong Louisvillian, he joined the electrical trade in 1957 and during his career he achieved the rank of Master Electrician. He was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 369 of which he held many leadership positions. In 2005, he was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Carolyn Hendricks Dunn; son, Kenneth; father, Sherman John Dunn; mother, Charlotte Meisner Dunn; and siblings Sherman Charles “Charlie” Dunn, Joseph Dunn and Anna Dunn.
He is survived by his six children, and siblings, Robert “Bob” Arnold Dunn (Noel), Mary Hodges, Ruth Ann Pluckebaum and Thomas Eugene Dunn (Thanh).
Funeral service will be conducted at 2 pm on Saturday, January 5, 2019 in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.) with interment at Resthaven Memorial Park. Friends may pay their respects on Friday, January 4, 2019 from 12 pm until 8 pm and Saturday for 10 am until the time of service.
