Scott Joseph Farley of Mount Washington, Kentucky passed peacefully on February 18, 2021. He suffered complications due to a heart attack he had on January 24th 2021. The 25 days he had spent fighting in the hospital will come to be known as 25 days of lessons, strength, courage and love.
Scott was the second baby born in Norton Audubon Hospital during a snow storm on January 30th 1980. He must have loved that snow storm so much as it was the same weather he chose to leave us with, in the same hospital. He graduated in 1998 from DeSales High School in Louisville, Kentucky where he leaves a legacy behind along with a band of brothers who will never forget him. Scott spent the last 20 years working various positions within the Hexion Specialty Chemical plant in Louisville. There he grew from a young man into dedicated, hardworking, loyal team member and truly loved by all.
In 2012 Scott met the love of his life and in a whirlwind year he stole Kelly’s heart and kept this “loud northern girl” in Kentucky to stay. He always said her accent is why he married her. In a few months they were engaged and he knew that she fell just as much in love with him as he did her. Within 11 months they were engaged, pregnant and married. They found each other at the perfect time in their lives when they needed love the most. That was just the beginning of their story.
In 2006 his first love was born….Ethan Brady Farley and that began a new chapter in his life. He was hands down the best father to Ethan and in 2013 Finnegan Joseph Farley was born to now complete his family. His boys were everything to him. Scott never missed a football game, basketball game, soccer game or a cross country race. He was never without encouragement, love and compassion for everything they did. They shared a love of sports and taught his boys early on they bleed Kentucky Blue. They watched UK games together and taught the kids if you yell loud enough at the TV maybe, just maybe the coaches and players could hear him.
Scott loved his family more than anything in the world, but he also loved his bourbon. He often sent Kelly on missions to find that rare bottle he just had to have. He enjoyed any home project and no task was too big to complete. Scott also was very proud of his lawn, so much that Kelly was planning on buying him white New Balances for the fresh grass cutting season in typical Dad style. He loved his friends fiercely and would do anything in the world for them. From his days at Our Mother of Sorrows to his neighborhood friends he treasured them today just as much as he did in 5th grade. Scott had a way of bringing everyone together with his hilarious personality and love for a good joke and laughter. Our home was host to many “Farley Parties” that in fact brought so many together and we will always cherish those times.
Scott is survived by his life’s love, Kelly Farley; sons, Ethan and Finnegan Farley of Mount Washington, KY. His mother Janice Farley of Louisville, KY. His brother Thomas (Pamela) Farley of Louisville, KY. His mother in law Debbie Craven of Chesterton, Indiana. He left many wonderful, loving Aunts, Uncles, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his Father in Law Jerry Craven and his father Tommy Farley.
Kelly wishes to thank Dr. Bassel Alkhalil, Dr. Sean Stewart, Dr. Maroun Ghossein, Dr. Jason Mann, Dr. David Rosenbaum and Kristen Young for giving her the best gift of 25 extra days with her beloved husband, for giving her strength in those days, for giving her courage to push through the hard days, for their kind and compassionate souls who never gave up and for being there every step of the way. Scott truly had the 93 Bulls…the “Dream Team” on his side. Kelly also wants to extend the most sincere heartfelt appreciation to her “roommates” in ICU 22, the nurses, the respiratory therapists, music therapy, the Chaplains, the Norton Director of Patient Care Services and the ECMO team that kept her strong through the last month with hugs, smiles, laughs and tears. We all learned something from Scott and we will remember him forever as his mission isn’t over yet.
Scott’s visitation will be Tuesday February 23rd and Wednesday February 24th from 1:00 pm-8:00 pm at Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home, 123 Winning Colors Drive, Mount Washington, Kentucky. Wednesday at 6:00 pm there will be a prayer service for him as well. There will be a funeral mass at St. Francis Xavier, 155 Stringer Lane, Mount Washington, KY on Thursday at 10:00 am. Following the mass he will be laid to rest in the Mount Washington Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
