

Charles George Kucera passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2016, at age 82. He was born February 10, 1933 in Moravia, Texas, to parents Charles Joseph and Mary M. (Provazek) Kucera. Charles attended the Breslau School near Hallettsville, and later moved with his family to Houston in 1957. He met and married Betty Jo (Kurtz) Kucera of Shiner in 1973. The couple lived and worked in Houston, Charles at Southwest Concrete Accessories, then Ferranti International Controls (formerly known as TRW) for more than 25 years. In 1993 Charles and Betty moved to Shiner to enjoy their retirement. Charles enjoyed gardening and attending to their many pets through the years, often tinkering outdoors while wearing his many baseball caps. He will be remembered by his family as a devout Catholic, always with a quiet nature and soft smile. Charles is preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Betty Jo (Kurtz), and sister Ellen Rose (Kucera) Boriskie of Houston. He is survived by his sister Mary Ann Kucera of Shiner, nieces of Houston, and numerous cousins throughout the Texas area and beyond. Funeral services for Charles will be at Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner on Friday, January 22, 2016. Visitation will begin at 9am, with Rosary at 9:30am and Funeral Mass at 10am. Visitation at Buffington Funeral Home will be Thursday, January 21, 2016 from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm. Burial will be at Shiner Catholic Cemetery and a reception at the church will follow. In lieu of the usual remembrances, contributions may be made to Boys Town, P O Box 8000, Boys Town, NE, 68010 (or www.boystown.org/gift), or Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 306 S Avenue F, Shiner, TX 77984-8208. Funeral Mass is under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home in Shiner, Texas.
