Funeral Services are under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home in Shiner, Texas and will be held Monday, December 10, 2012 at 10:00 am at the Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner, Texas with Father Kirby Hlavaty and Msgr. Joseph Hybner officiating.
Burial will follow at the Shiner Catholic Cemetery in Shiner, Texas.
Roasary will be said on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at 6:00 pm at the Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner, Texas with Deacon Joe Machacek officiating.
Herbert was born on November 2, 1934 in Hallettsville, Texas. He was the son of Adolf and Hermina (Muehlstein) Marek. He graduated from Hallettesville High School in 1934. He married Mary Ann Pekar at the Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner, Texas on June 10, 1955. He was employed by Kasper Wire for twelve years before going to work for Arkla Gas Company/South Texas Gas Company, where he worked until his retirement. After his retirement, he worked for Lavaca County Transit as a driver, where he enjoyed helping the elderly and handicapped riders. Herbert loved to be with his family. He enjoyed attending the activities of his children and grandchildren. He was a big supporter of the St. Paul Cardnials. He also enjoyed working cattle with his family on their farm. His hobbies was reading, hunting, farming, and gardening.
He is survived by: Mary Ann, his loving wife of 57 years, three sons; Gary Marek and his wife, Laurie of Shiner, Texas, Douglas Marek of Austin, Texas and Patrick Marek and his wife, Camille of Shiner, Texas, one daughter; Nancy Hodges and her husband, Monty of Shiner, Texas, one daugh-ter-in-law; Lisa Novak of Houston, Texas, three grand children; Gil, Brett, and Krystin Hodges of Shiner, Texas, two brothers; Leonard Marek and his wife, Georgie of Hallettsville, Texas and Adolph Marek and his wife, Bernice of Hallettsville, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; Adolf and Hermina Marek and one son; Allen R. Marek.
Pallbearers for Herbert will be: Gil Hodges, Brett Hodges, Glen Pekar, Bob Darilek, Daryl Kloesel,Sandy Joe Dieringer, August Madala and Arnold Branecky.
