Alvin was born April 10th, 1946 in Shreveport, LA to Alvin and Myma Ray Horn. He was a long-standing member and Deacon of Calvary Baptist Church from the original location in Cedar Grove off of Saint Vincent until the move to Linwood Avenue. He made a point to find ways to serve the Lord, whether that be teaching small groups, serving the youth or visiting people at their homes. Alvin served his country proudly in the United States Air Force during the Viet Nam conflict from 1967 through 1971. Before he enlisted into the service, he met the future Mrs. Virginia Spitale Horn in 1962 and later married in 1973 which lasted the test time with over 50 long happy years together. Alvin was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His passion was to shine the light towards Jesus and to support his family. He often bragged about his times in Puerto Rico, drag racing with his brother Curtis, his loving wife, his time at Southern Maid Donuts, the occasional Air Force stories, his kids, and grandchildren. His dream was to sit his grandkids on his lap to tell the story of Jesus. He also had a hobby into drafting home designs that was used to build the houses he lived in and even sometime just for fun.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alvin Horn and Myma Alice Ray Horn; sister Billie Jean Artz and brothers-in-law James Dean Artz, and Benny Sirman.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Virginia Spitale Horn or better known as Ginger; son, John Patrick Horn and his wife Tiffany; daughter, Christina Horn; grandchildren,Henry Lucas Michael Horn and step-grandchild Grayson Bentley Alison. He is also survived by two sisters, Joyce and husband Elmer Lewing; sister Bonnie Sirman; two brothers Curtis and his wife Cindy Horn, Tommy and his wife Sharon Horn; brother-in-law John and his wife Carol Spitale; sister-in-law Toni Ann Spitale and many nieces and nephews. Although he will be greatly missed by all, we take comfort in knowing that he is with his Lord.
