Alvin Eugene Owens was born February 2, 1931 in Stamps, Arkansas to the late Dani and Alvin Owens and passed away peacefully at 2:20 pm, September 5, 2010 at his home surrounded by family and friends. Gene and Jo Ann were married on December 31, 1966 and have resided in Shreveport since that time.
Gene became a Charter Member of the Loyal Order of Moose Shreveport Lodge 2239, June 21, 1970 and achieved the highest degree of Pilgrim in 2005. Gene has also been a member of the Northwest APA since its beginning. He is number 714. Gene was an Associate Broker of the Northwest Realtors Association for over 20 years. Gene at all times in his life was a good, gentle, kind and generous person who gave everyone he met the benefit of being treated as his equal and best friend. He enjoyed his life with sports of all kinds, especially pool, golf and football (LSU).
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, and one daughter, Leslie Jean Bradford. Left to cherish his memories and tell his stories will be his beloved wife of near 44 years, Jo Ann Miller Owens; one son, Steven Neil Owens of Springhill, LA; two grandson’s: Michael Owens and friend Brandy of Bradley, Ark., and Roger Lee of Bradford, Jr.; three sisters: Lois Moore of Idaho, Willie P. Kanelos of Shreveport and Cheroyl Taylor of Shreveport; three sisters-in-law, Helen Armadine Wright and husband Norman of Bossier City, Anita Brinson and husband George of Monroe, and Vera Starr and husband Henry of Swartz; his loving niece, Latisia Mills; fifteen other loving nieces and nephews; twenty-four great nieces and great nephews; his “Special Son” Bob Windham and Sally of Shreveport; his Moose family; his pool buddies, golf partners along with many extended family members and numerous wonderful friends.
Celebration of Life services for Mr. Alvin E. Owens, 79, will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 9, 2010 in the Centuries Memorial Chapel with Brother Harold Coburn of the Bethel United Methodist Church of Elysian Fields, Texas officiating, along with the ceremonial staff of Shreveport Lodge 2239, Loyal Order of Moose; Lester Frazier, Ken Coffman, David Coy, David May, James Futch and Ken Stuart. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park, Shreveport, Louisiana. The family will be receiving friends for visitation Wednesday, September 8, 2010 from the hours of 5-8 p.m. at Centuries Funeral Home.
Honoring Gene as pallbearers will be friends, David May, Randy Hand, and Chris Pierce, his nephews, Michael Michel, Chris Haacker, and Paul Mills. Honorary pallbearers are the Pilgrims of Shreveport Lodge Loyal Order of Moose: Hank Caulder, Ray Harris, Gerry Striplin, T.J. Anderson, Charlie Stier, Angelo Latino, Earl Ellard, Rodney Landrum, Houston Nelson, Tommy Dupree, Lester Frazier, Ken Coffman and Fellow Bill Sweet.
