Anita was born in Carthage, TX, on March 3, 1939, to John and Kathryn O'Bryan. Her life was defined by her devotion to her family and community. A dedicated homemaker, she poured her heart into creating a loving home for all to enjoy. She was always eager to help others and was an active volunteer throughout her life, offering her time and talents to the local nursing homes, the Caddo Parish School System, and Pinecroft Baptist Church’s Vacation Bible School.
Anita had a wide array of interests and hobbies that brought joy to those around her. She loved sewing, gardening, and cutting hair—so much so that many believed she should have been a beautician. Her cookies were a favorite treat for family and friends, a sweet reminder of the care she put into everything she did. And of course, no conversation about her interests would be complete without mentioning her lifelong love of Elvis Presley, whom she enjoyed from her youth into her later years.
Her memory will be cherished by those who knew her, and the lives she touched will carry her legacy forward.
She is survived by her son, Vaughn Steadman (Donna); her sister, Kathy Barr; her grandchildren, Christopher Steadman (Jennifer) and Tiffany Steadman; and her great-granddaughters, Lorelei, Eloise, and Emma. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Steadman; her parents, John Baker O'Bryan and Kathryn Langford O'Bryan; and her brothers, Keith O'Bryan, John O'Bryan, and Thomas O'Bryan.
A Celebration of Life will be held Graveside at Pilgrim Cemetery, 1559 FM 861, Elkhart, TX 75839, on Friday, March 7,2025, at 11:00 AM. The service will be led by Pastor Michael Lumpkins of Broyels Chapel Church in Palestine, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to The Bridge Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center or St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Anita’s memory.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Life Path Hospice Care Services, with special appreciation to Ellen, Sheryl, and Ms. Ernestine, for their compassion and care.
