April 10, 1927 to May 14, 2016
Beloved mother and grandmother lost her 6 year courageous battle to Alzheimer’s; she passed away peacefully with family by her bedside in San Diego.
After being diagnosed in 2010, she moved to San Diego to live with her son Barry and his family. She had many wonderful times with her grandchildren, Kirk and Chiara. After 3 years at home, the disease progressed and she moved into a nearby Brookdale facility, in the Memory Care unit. Up until late 2015, she would still have several dinners a week with the family at home and go on outings; eventually the disease took its toll.
Annie was born in Wilmar, Arkansas and spent most of her life in the South. She worked with the phone company for a number of years and then in various Hospitals. After becoming an Air Force wife the family lived at several bases but her favorite was Berlin, Germany where she lived from 1961-1965. Eventually, the family retired to Bossier City in 1971 after the final base assignment at Barksdale. She truly loved the South and its people. She was also a devout Baptist and attended church services for many years; her last church was Shady Grove Baptist Church in Bossier City where she attended faithfully for many years. Her kindness and love will continue to be missed by her church family.
Annie worked at Bossier Medical and Schumpert Hospital; she truly loved her job and all the wonderful people she met. She was a very caring person, always willing to help others when she could. Annie had a laugh that seemed to brighten a room. She was blessed to have many wonderful friends and neighbors in the area. She enjoyed southern cuisine, especially her favorite, fried seafood; she was also an excellent cook.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Michael Masci; second husband Bob Gibbins and their son Clayton Gibbins. She leaves behind son Barry Masci of San Diego, daughter in law Diane, grandson Kirk and granddaughter Chiara. Also, of Bossier City, grandson Connor Gibbins and daughter in law Anne Anice Gibbins; niece Katie Davis of Crossett, Arkansas and lifelong friend Nell Holder of Shreveport. She had four brothers (Buddy, Al, Ray, Glen) and one sister (Bonnie) who predeceased her.
Visitation will be at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at 1:00 PM and the service will follow at 2:00 PM. Officiating will be Rev. Stephen Sorrell. She will be laid to rest very near her son Clayton who passed away in 1998.
Donations can be made to an Alzheimer’s organization of your choice or Shady Grove Baptist Church, Bossier City, LA.
Annie was a very loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by many.
