Beacher Pert Ernest Gillis

Beacher Ernest “Pert” Gillis, 81, passed away on November 23, 2010 in Shreveport, LA. “Pert” as he was lovingly known, throughout his life, was born to Ernest and Pauline Gillis on October 10, 1929 in Coffee County, GA.

Pert served proudly in the U.S. Army and after serving his country began a career as a Final Processor for General Motors. Mr. Gillis worked at the Lakewood General Motors Plant in Atlanta, GA for 37 years. Mr. Gillis was a member of Westview Christian Church in Shreveport, LA and before moving to Louisiana Mr. Gillis served as a deacon at the First Christian Church in Tyrone, GA.

Pert is preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Pauline Gillis.

Mr. Gillis is survived by his wife of 53 years, Claudette Gillis, children; Jane Turpin and husband Jim, Laura Bennett and husband Mark and Ernest Gillis and wife Michelle, grandchildren; Jason Turpin and wife Michelle, Jeffrey and Jessica Turpin, Rachel Rentz and husband Chris and Leah and Nicole Gillis. Mr. Gillis is also survived by siblings; James, Harvey and Ray Gillis, E.L. Meeks and Taunce Smith and their families. He is also survived by a host of many other relatives and friends.

A memorial service celebrating Pert’s life will be held at a later date.
