Benny R. Miers, age 86, of Shreveport, Louisiana, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born in Toro, Louisiana, Benny lived a life of devotion, service, and love, touching the lives of all who knew him.
A faithful husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated servant of his community, Benny’s unwavering faith was evident in his work as a Deacon and song leader at Temple Primitive Baptist Church. His commitment extended beyond the church as he served on the Board of the Louisiana Credit Union League and worked as the manager of both Carter Credit Union and Post Office Employees Federal Credit Union. Before dedicating his life to the credit union field, Benny spent 27 years with International Paper Co. in Springhill, Louisiana.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Benny’s zest for life was evident in his passions. He enjoyed playing basketball, following LSU sports, and most notably, his love for acapella singing. His joyful spirit and love for music will always be remembered by those who sang alongside him in church and community gatherings.
Benny is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Marie Faircloth Miers; his son, Dr. Wendell R. Miers (Cindy) of Nicholasville, Kentucky; his daughter, Cheryl Williams (Adam) of El Dorado, Arkansas; and his grandchildren, Connor Williams (Becca) and Anna Grant (Nathan). He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin E. Miers and Hazel Evans, as well as his brothers, Perry and Sherman Miers.
A visitation for Benny will be held Wednesday, February 12, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108. A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at 2:00 PM, officiated by Elder Troy Phillips of Temple Primitive Baptist Church.
Benny will be laid to rest in Centuries Memorial Funeral Home & Park, Veteran Garden II, Lot 208, Grave 6. Serving as pallbearers will be Dr. Wendell R. Miers, Adam Williams, Connor Williams, and Nathan Grant.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in Benny's memory be made to Temple Primitive Baptist Church, P.O Box 3332, Shreveport, Louisiana 71133.
