Bettie Jean Strathmann Meroney

Shreveport, Louisiana

Celebration of Life services for Mrs. Bettie Jean Meroney, 86, will be held 6:00 p.m., Monday, May 31, 2010 at the Faith Baptist Church, Waskom, Texas with Rev. Doug Lovett officiating. Inurnment will take place in Edwardsville, Illinois in the St. Andrews Episcopal Church Columbarium at a later date.

Mrs. Bettie Jean Meroney was born August 31, 1923 in Excelsior Springs, MO to the late Bernard Henry “Ben” and Olive C. Lehr Strathman and was called home to be with her Savior on May 26, 2010 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Mrs. Meroney was affiliated with St. Andrews Episcopal Church where she will be laid to rest. She served this grateful nation during WWII in the U.S. Army. Mrs. Meroney received her medical degree as a registered nurse.

Mrs. Bettie is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband; Franklin Meroney. Left to cherish her memory and tell her stories will be two sons: Ben Meroney and wife Elaine and Michael Meroney and wife Denise, three daughters: Cynthia Camp, Nancy Dickens, and Karen Wilbert and husband Thomas, twelve grandchildren: Rachel Hizam and husband Amer, Rebecca Camp and husband Saiprasad Vaidya, Daniel Camp and wife Kaylin, Craig Henderson and wife Robin, Lisa Walker, Emily and Victoria Meroney, Erin Wilbert, Patrick and Parker Meroney, and Kevin Dickens and wife Kristi, Christopher Dickens, three great-grandchildren: Noah Henderson, Jacob and Andrew Dickens, along with numerous extended family members and many great friends.

The family would like to express a special thanks to the nursing staffs of Highland Hospital and Corner Stone Hospital, Dr. Charles Scott Patton, and Dr. Eric Smith for their care and compassion shared with Mrs. Bettie Meroney and her family in their time of need.

The family has requested all flowers be delivered to Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, or Faith Baptist Church, Waskom, TX.
