Bill Edward Bruno died peacefully at his home on August 26, 2011, surrounded by his family after bravely fighting several illnesses for many years. He was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church. His funeral service will be held at Broadmoor Baptist Church on Wednesday, August 31, 2011, at 2:00 pm and will be officiated by Rev. Tom Harrison. Visitation will be held from noon to 2:00 pm in the church parlor immediately prior to the service. A graveside service will follow at Centuries Memorial Cemetery on Mansfield Road.
Bill was born on July 7, 1935, in Sulphur, Louisiana, to Louis and Ruth Bruno and raised in Lake Charles. He was one of thirteen children. He graduated from LaGrange High School. God blessed him with a loving and caring wife, Sally, who he married on October 2, 1954, and had two loving daughters, Kathy and Debbie. He gave them a wonderful life and was an inspirational role model. He was devoted to his family and was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his little dog Teddy.
Bill was hard-working, kind, dedicated, and a perfectionist in all that he did. He was always lending a helping hand to anyone. He worked for Southern Pacific Railroad for more than forty-two years and loved his job. Bill was proud of his work on the railroad and of his union membership. He was well respected by his peers and served as local chairman of the United Transportation Union.
A hobby of Bill’s was his talent for carpentry. He could build and fix anything. Bill lived his life by his belief, “If you are going to do it, do it right or don’t do it at all.” You certainly did Bill!
Bill enjoyed fishing, yard work, handy man activities, and cooking Cajun food. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Saints and LSU and any level of baseball. He always looked forward to the annual family fishing trip to Toledo Bend and his regular “coffee meetings” with his railroad friends.
The wonderful memories of Bill will be remembered by his wife of fifty-six years, Sally Kennedy Bruno; children, Kathryn Bruno Kenney and husband Shawn and Debra Bruno Marshall and husband Ben Jr.; grandchildren, Franci Corr and husband Jim, Katherine Marshall, Melissa Ledbetter and husband Jared, Sally Marshall, and Ben Marshall, III; great-grandchildren Aidan and Rylan Corr; brother Jerry Bruno, sisters Betty Jo Kingham, Barbara Frost, Delores Rossi, Shirley Ferri, Wyonna Berzas and Helen Brown; and numerous nieces and nephews
Bill is pre-deceased by his parents, Louis and Ruth Bruno; brothers Louis and Robert and sisters Marie and Juanita June.
Honoring Bill as pallbearers will be Jerry Bruno, Chuck Sosbe, Jr., Scott Kingham, Will Berzas, Curtis Brown, Lanny Ray, Ellis Richard, and Robert Rossi.
The grace and dignity with which Bill fought his courageous battle against these illnesses is a source of strength for his family. He was the rock of our family and will continue that in spirit. He will be greatly missed forever.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Tommy Mook, Dr. Robert Martin, Dr. Manish Dhawan, Dr. Himanshu Desai, and Dr. Scott Boniol.
