A celebration of Billy’s life will be held at 10 am Thursday, September 9, 2021, at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home. Officiating will be Bro. John Harp of Brookwood Baptist Church. A brief graveside service will follow the funeral. Visitation with the family will be from 5pm-7pm Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at Centuries. His grandsons will serve as pall bearers: Matthew Barr, Steven Barr, Bryce Thomas Lowery, Michael Mead, Michael Penn, and Matthew Robinson.
Billy departed this earthly life on September 4, 2021, at the age of 85. Billy was preceded in death by two loving wives: Patricia Tudor Waits and Faye Morgan Barr Waits; parents Correy and Christine Waits, a grandson and great-granddaughter. He is survived by his sons, Bill Waits, Michael, Tommy and Kenneth Barr and their families; daughter Kathy Robinson and her family; one brother, Mack Waits, and two sisters, Sue Edwards and Paula Becker, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, one aunt, and many devoted friends.
Billy was a member of Brookwood Baptist church and Kem Brown’s Sunday School class. As a barber at B & N Barber Shop for over 50 years, Billy had lifelong friendships with generations of customers. After he retired, he continued to visit his homebound friends to keep them trimmed and happy. Time with family and friends was always a joy and priority for Billy. If you were friends of Billy’s family, you quickly became “family” to him—his door was always open, food on the table, and you were welcomed to stop in for a visit anytime day or night. Billy had a strong work ethic, easy laugh, and treated everyone with respect. He lived his Christian faith, loved his family well and was a loyal friend.
The family would like to thank Amber and her team at Southern Care Hospice; sweet sitters Denova, Lori, Shirley and Dawn; and the staff of the Bloom at Bossier for their kindness during Billy’s short stay with them. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Michael Waits Fund with checks made payable to “Mt Mariah Church” c/o Nancy Bond, 275 Mask Road, Athens, LA, 71003.
